Meaning of name:
Kennedia, after John Kennedy, a partner in the renowned firm of nurserymen, Lee and Kennedy of Hammersmith, London (the genus was named by French botanist Étienne Pierre Ventenat (1757–1808))
nigricans is from Latin: nigrum, black + decens, becoming. A reference to the flower

Common names are Black Coral Pea and Black Kennedia. Kennedia nigricans is a vigorous climber or fast spreading ground cover, reaching either 4m (13 feet) in height or 6m (20 feet) in diameter respectively. It is native to the southwestern region of Western Australia and the black and yellow flowers appear from mid winter to late spring.

This print features in the Kennedia species diptych and the Two Coral Peas diptych.
