(Pictured: Kurrajong NSW. Sandstone stunted trees, some showing evidence of bushfires over decades. There is an abundance of colour and life while the rains persist.)

In the foothills of the Blue Mountains at Kurrajong near Windsor west of Sydney, the natural vegetation is scraggy, struggling to gain a lifehold on a harsh sandstone substrate

In years of good rain the bush grows quickly and colourfully. But in the drought years bushfires rage through the area and scorch the vegetation back to ground level.

Here in the very large back yard of my brother in law Daryl and his lovely wife Val is a vast range of native flowering plants, including Day Iris (Patersonia fragilis) (artwork #204), Mountain Devil (Lambertia formosa) (artwork #095) and Waratah (Telopea speciosissima) (artwork #205) all providing me with wonderful specimens.
