(Pictured: A restful house in Guildford, in suburban Perth WA. My interest was the pressed metal faux roof tiles.)

In May 2009 we visited Perth, Western Australia, and travelled up the Swan river by train to the historic suburban village of Guildford.

Guildford was one of three towns established during the founding of the Swan River Colony in 1829. Perth was the administration centre, Fremantle the port and Guildford the market town.

We wandered into the village park and I spotted a lovely pink Eucalyptus leucoxylon (artwork #164) flower. Forgetting that I was in a public park, and focused only on the flower, I went straight up to it and picked it off. It was then that I became aware of a group of council gardeners having morning tea under a nearby shady tree.

They watched me silently with their sandwiches and cups of coffee held frozen in mid air. I felt like a felon. Nothing came of it, I guess because none were willing to interrupt their break.
